C : Please bring it as soon as possible, O.K.? 약사 : 술을 많이 마셨을 때 나타나는 증상이에요. 손님 : 머리가 깨질 듯 아프고 느낌이 좋지 않아요. 약사 : 빠르게 작용하는 한방약을 드셔보시겠습니까? 손님 : 이 메스꺼움만 빨리 나을 수 있으면 아무거나 상관없어요. 약사 : 조제를 해야 하니까 잠시만 기다려 주십시오. 손님 : 알겠습니다. 30분 후에 다시 오겠습니다. 약사 : 약을 가져다 드릴까요? 손님 : 그렇게 해주시면 좋구요. 약사 : 이 종이에 성함과 주소를 써주십시오. 손님 : 가능하면 빨리 가져다 주십시오.2002-04-10 10:08

I also recommend that you eat foods with fiber, and try to relax. 손님 : 지난 4일동안 거의 변을 보지 못했어요. 약사 : 그러면 거의 식욕도 없겠네요. 손님 : 빠르게 작용하는 변비약이 있을까요? 약사 : 가루약도 괜찮겠습니까? 손님 : 좋지는 않지만 선택의 여지가 없군요. 약사 : 밤에 자기 전에 한 티스푼을 복용하십시오. 약간 복통을 동반할 수도 있지만 다음날 아침에는 괜찮아 집니다. 손님 : 감사합니다. 정말 도움이 됐어요. 약사 : 잠시만요. 섬유식을 많이 드시고, 휴식을 취하시는 게 좋겠네요.

Wash your face carefully a few times a day, avoid eating too many sweets, stay away from food that is too stimulating, and be careful not to get constipated. C : I should apply this several times throughout the day, whenever it seems to need it, right? By the way, what exactly do you mean by “stay away from food that is too stimulating?” P : Take it easy on coffee and chocolate. 손님 : 여드름 약 좀 주세요. 약사 : 여드름은 젊다는 증거예요. 결코 부끄러워할 일이 아니죠. 손님 : 보시겠어요? 얼굴이 여드름투성이에요. 약사 : 제 설명을 잘 듣고 지켜주세요. 하루에 여러 번 얼굴을 깨끗이 씻고 단 것을 피하고 너무 자극적인 것을 먹지 말고 변비에 걸리지 않도록 하세요. 손님 : 필요하다고 생각될 때마다 하루에 몇 번, 바르면 되죠? 그런데 자극적인 음식이란 정확히 무엇을 말하는 거죠? 약사 : 커피나 초콜릿은 피해 주세요.

Have you taken aspirin before without any problem? C : It's too hard on my stomach. P : Buffered aspirin doesn't have any such side effects. 손님 : 아침부터 머리가 아파서요. 약사 : 혹시 감기에 걸리셨나요? 손님 : 아니오, 가끔 머리가 아픕니다. 약사 : 어느 부분이 아프십니까? 손으로 집을 수 있습니까? 손님 : 이 부분입니다. 약사 : 편두통 같군요. 아스피린을 드셔보시겠습니까? 아스피린을 드시고 무슨 문제가 있었던 적이 있습니까? 손님 : 아스피린은 위에 부담이 되요. 약사 : 버퍼드 아스피린은 그런 부작용은 없습니다. ※ Buffered aspirin= aspirin + antacid

C : I'll do as you say. 손님 : 칼로 베었어요. 약사 : 깊이 베었습니까? 손님 : 네, 출혈이 멈추지 않아요. 약사 : 소독약과 지혈제가 들어간 연고를 드리겠습니다. 손님 : 붕대와 거즈도 주십시오. 약사 : 네, 그러나 만약 한시간 후에도 출혈이 멈추지 않으면 병원에 가십시오. 손님 : 그렇게 하겠습니다. 아프겠지만 빨리 나았으면 좋겠어요. 약사 : 이 약에는 국소마취제도 들어 있으므로 안심하셔도 됩니다. 다만, 상처부위를 심장보다 높게 하시고 많이 움직이지 마십시오. 손님 : 가르쳐 주신대로 하겠습니다.

C : It's for my child. He always gets carsick when we drive somewhere. P : Have him take one tablet this evening, then give him another about 30 minutes before you get in the car to drive. Try to see that he doesn't eat too much before you drive. C : Maybe I should take some myself... P : This medicine can make you drowsy, so please don't do any driving if you take it. C : Do you have anything that doesn't make you sleepy? P : I'm sorry. Every kind of medicine for this causes drowsiness. 손님 : 내일 저희가 부산을 가는데요. 약사 : 즐거우시겠어요. 멀미약은 어른용을 드릴까요, 아이용을 드릴까요? 손님 : 아이용이요. 우리집 아이는 항상 차멀미를 해서요. 약사 : 오늘밤에 한 알을 먹이시고 차타기 전 30분에 또 한 알을 먹이십시오. 차타기 전에는 너무 많이 먹지 않도록 해주세요. 손님 : 내것도 좀 사갈까... 약사 : 이 약은 졸음을 유발합니다. 약을 먹었을 경우에는 운전은 삼가 주십시오. 손님 : 졸립지 않은 약은 없습니까? 약사 : 죄송한데요. 모든 멀미약은 졸음을 유발합니다.

C : Soup is about the only thing that sounds good to me now. 약사 : 언제부터 설사가 시작됐습니까? 배변상태와 열은 어떻습니까? 손님 : 아침부터 그랬어요. 설사가 나고 배가 아픕니다. 열은 없고요. 약사 : 최근에 해외여행을 하셨습니까? 손님 : 네, 런던에서 그저께 입국했습니다. 약사 : 이 약을 드셔보시죠. 만약 내일 아침까지 계속 아프시면 의사의 진찰을 받아보세요. 또 발열이 있을 경우에도 의사의 진찰이 필요합니다. 소화가 잘되는 음식을 드시고, 회복될 때까지 충분한 휴식을 취하세요. 손님 : 수프 같은 것이 좋겠군요.

Why don't you have him try this multiple cold medicine, and see if he feels any better? 손님 : 열나는데 먹는 약 좀 주세요. 약사 : 누가 먹을 거죠? 손님 : 남편이요. 약사 : 열이 얼마나 나는데요? 손님 : 아직 재보지 않아서 모르겠지만, 열이 많이 나요. 약사 : 목이 아프고 기침도 합니까? 손님 : 목이 아프다고 했습니다. 그리고 기침도 하고요. 약사 : 감기같군요. 종합감기약을 드시게 하고 경과를 살펴보지요.

오는 5월말 실시될 월드컵 등 국제행사로 수많은 관광객들이 우리나라를 찾을 예정이다. 이에 따라 본지는 우리나라를 찾은 외국인들이 약국을 방문했을 때 약사들의 대응능력을 키우기 위한 방안으로 약국 실무영어를 게재하기로 했다. 약국 실무영어는 외국인이 약국을 찾았을 때 대응 요령부터 감기 등 경질환에 대한 복약지도 내용을 중심으로 게재된다.

P : How long have you had it?
C : For the last two days.
